Phenytoin, anticonvulsants Overcome Epilepsy Drugs

Phenytoin is used to control seizures (convulsions) are frequently used in the treatment of epilepsy. The drug is also used to prevent and treat seizures that occur during brain surgery.

Contraindications

dose

First epilepsy
Initial: 3-4 mg / kg / day as single dose or in divided doses.
Maintenance: 200-500 mg / day.

Second status epilepticus
In addition to benzodiazepines: 10-15 mg / kg.
Maintenance: 100 mg 6-8 hours.

Side effects
